PMS stands for Pantone Matching System. It is a universal system of 700 colors used for specifying and blending match colors. It is a color standardization system that helps in color identification and matching. One uses Pantone numbering system to identify colors, and through this numbering system printer and other equipment manufacturers can match colors without having to contact one another. It provides accurate color consistency and can be used for tiny type or thin lines or if there are metallic or fluorescent colors. Using PMS yields more vibrant and brighter colors when printing. 

Pantone Matching System (or PMS) are used to help identify colour. Knowing the color of the product you are purchasing is important to quality assurance.
